Camo and Pattern Water Transfer Imaging Made Easy
MyDipkit is a do it yourself version of the commercial process known as water transfer imaging. This allows you to process parts on a small scale in your home. The kit contains the printed film, chemicals, and basic supplies needed for processing parts at home. You will need to provide a container for dipping the items in. You will also need to supply warm water, and the item to be decorated. With this kit you will be able to camo dip your own items.
This is the same process that gun and ATV manufacturers use to print camo patterns on their guns and ATVs. In addition this is the same process that automotive manufacturers use to print wood grain patterns on plastic interior pieces. This process can be done on any part that can be safely submerged under water. The basics steps are:
- Clean and prep the part
- Base coat the part
- Dip the part
- Clear coat the part
What is Water Transfer Imaging
Water transfer imaging is the process of applying decorative finished to 3D products. Any hard surface, non-porous and that can be submersed in water can be decorated. Another good rule of thumb is if you can get paint to stick to the object most likely you can decorate it with this process. Examples of such materials are: plastic, glass, hardwoods, fiberglass, ceramics, and metal (metal objects will require you to provide a self etching metal primer)
How does the Water Transfer Imaging Process Work
Products are decorated using a print, which resides on a thin base of water-soluble film. The printed film is placed on the surface of the water, and the base begins to dissolve. A patented activator chemical is sprayed over the film causing the ink to remain floating in an oil-like state on top of the water. Next the properly prepared part is immersed into the water, and the upward pressure of the water causes the ink to wrap around and adhere to the item. After the entire item has been immersed, it is removed from the water, cleaned and then coated with a clear coat. Included in the kit is a link to a set of video instructions that walk you through all the steps in the process.
What is included in the kit
This kit includes. 1 meter film of Water Transfer Image in your choice of camo or pattern, 4 oz Aerosol can of activator, 4 oz Aerosol can of primer, 4 oz Aerosol can of base coat paint, 4 oz Aerosol can of low gloss clear top coat, Mask, One pair of latex gloves, 3" x 4" Scuff pad, Detailed instructions for the dipping process.
What you need to provide
1. Dipping Container: The vessel or container needed for processing.
2. Heated water: You will need to fill your dipping container with heated water. You can use warm water straight from your sink. You do not need to add anything to the water, just make it warm water like you would use to wash your hands. As long as the water is not cold or room temperature you will be ok.

Tips for Selecting the Right Dipping Container
The container can be made of any desired material such as plastic, glass or metal. A square or rectangular container is the most desired configuration. The container should be of a size that when you lay your desired part to be processed in the center of the container, you should have two to three inches of space between the sides of the container. Also, the container should be deep enough that when you process your part it will be totally submersed below the water line. Your container can never be too deep, but it can be too shallow.
How Do I use myDipKit
NOTE: Detailed instructions for each step are included with the kit. Also, included with the instructions is a link with username and password to an online video showing the process and detailing the instructions.
- Clean the part: The part must be free of all dirt, oils, wax, grease, loose paint or other containments that could affect the finished product.
- Prep the part: Mask off areas not to be printed on etc. Primer the part.
- Paint the part: Spray the part with the appropriate base coat.
- Dip the part: Item is submerged into dipping container with the film floating on top of the water.
- Rinse the part: Rinse the part to remove any residue from the dipping procedure.
- Finish coat: Finish the item with the spray clear coat.

What can I dip?
Basically any hard surface you can get the base coat to adhere to you can dip.
Is it hard to dip an object?
The process is straight forward; if you can follow instruction you can dip an object.
Are some parts harder to dip then others?
Yes, depending on the configuration of the part some can be more difficult then others.
Can I use my own base coat colors?
Yes, as long as it is a good automotive base coat you can use it for processing.
Do I have to use special water?
No any water from a clean supply is adequate.
Some parts of the film melts and some does not?
It is important that when you spray the activator over the film that you hold the can level. You must have even coverage on the film.
The print looked great then smeared off?
To much activator.
The print looked great but had air bubbles?
Not enough activator.
After printing I had little holes?
The part was processed too flat into the film and trapped air.
After printing I had voids?
The water reached the area to be printed before the film. The film will not adhere to a wet or damp surface.
The part printed great then started to eat into the base coat?
You let the part stand out too long before rinsing it off. After printing place the part under running water. If you just set the part to the side it will continue its adhesion process.
Can I touch up a small imperfection?
Yes, spray some activator into a small container. Use a small brush, dip into the activator then rub the brush onto a piece of the film. You can dilute some of the ink from the carrier and dap it onto the area you wish to touch up. After this procedure rinse the part under running water.

Some Important information when using our products
SURFACE PREPERATION: Surface should be clean and dry. Remove dirt, grease, oil, wax, and loose paint.
DIRECTIONS: Use outdoors or in a well ventilated area when temperature is between 68-78 degrees Fahrenheit, and humidity is below 60% to ensure proper drying. Mask surrounding area where overspray might settle. Shake can for at least one minute, listening for the rattle of the mixing ball. Shake for 10 seconds at 1-2 minute intervals during application. Hold can 6 to 10 inches from surface. Press spray button firmly. Do not cover with continuous spray. Move back and forth releasing spray head after each stroke. Overlap each stroke. Apply two thin coats rather than one heavy coat.
CLEAN UP: If spray button becomes clogged, pull off and clean with solvent.
DO NOT: Stick pins or wire into can opening. Replace spray button firmly with valve opening pointing away from you. To prevent valve from clogging after use, turn can upside down and press spray head for 4 seconds.
WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reporoductive harm. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
CONTAINS NO CFC'S- In accordance with Federal regulations which prohibit CFC propellants in aerosols.
PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN HANDLING AND STORAGE
Keep away from heat, sparks, and open flame. Vapors will accumulate readily and may ignite explosively. During use and until all vapors are gone: Keep area ventilated - Do not smoke - Extinguish all flames, pilot lights, and heaters - Turn off stoves, electric tools and appliances, and any other sources of ignition. Consult NFPA Code. Use approved Bonding and Grounding procedures. Contents under pressure. Do not puncture, incinerate, or expose to temperature above 120F. Heat from sunlight, radiators, stoves, hot water, and other heat sources could cause container to burst. Do not take internally. Keep out of the reach of children.
PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN USE
Use only with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid breathing vapor and spray mist. Wash hands after using. EYE or SKIN contact with the product, vapor or spray mist.
EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE
SKIN: Prolonged or repeated exposure may cause irritation.
INHALATION: Irritation of the upper respiratory system. May cause nervous system depression. Extreme overexposure may result in unconsciousness and possibly death. Prolonged overexposure to solvent ingredients may cause adverse effects to the liver, urinary, cardiovascular and reproductive systems.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF OVEREXPOSURE
Headache, dizziness, nausea, and loss of coordination are indications of excessive exposure to vapors or spray mists. Redness and itching or burning sensation may indicate eye or excessive skin exposure.
Local exhaust preferable. General exhaust acceptable if the exposure to materials is maintained below applicable exposure limits. Refer to OSHA Standards 1910.94, 1910.107, 1910.108.
If personal exposure cannot be controlled below applicable limits by ventilation, wear a properly fitted organic vapor/particulate respirator approved by NIOSH/MSHA for protection When sanding or abrading the dried film, wear a dust/mist respirator approved by NIOSH/MSHA for dust which may be generated from this product, underlying paint, or the abrasive.
Wear safety spectacles with unperforated sideshields.
Intentional misuse by deliberately concentrating and inhaling the contents can be harmful or fatal.
WASTE DISPOSAL METHOD
Do not incinerate. Depressurize container. Dispose of in accordance with Federal, State/Provincial, and Local regulations regarding pollution.
